The local food pantries could use your help…

Community Helping Place needs volunteers to collect donations at Walmart.

CHP is partnering with the Dahlonega Walmart to accept food donations from October 31st through November 14th, and hopes that this provides people with a practical and accessible way to contribute to addressing this need in our community.

In order to do this, we need volunteers to staff the table where we are accepting donations, in order to thank donors and to explain why there is an increased need. If you are available to help support our efforts, the volunteer sign-up sheet is linked below! You can also email katyjoy@communityhelpingplace.org

The number of people needing the food pantry has increased to an average of 300 families per month. Food banks have decreased their offerings. Donating becomes even more important at this time.

Staples always needed are:

  • Canned Fruit

  • Canned Vegetables

  • Juice

  • Peanut Butter

Any items you have purchased before are also appreciated.

Sock Donation for Incarcerated Women

Let’s donate white socks for women housed in the Women’s Correctional Facility in Alto.  We want each woman to be gifted at least one pair of clean white socks, which are essential and cost prohibitive at the prison’s commissary.  If you have any questions, contact Jill Gray or Mary DeLorenzo.  A labeled container will be located near the door throughout the month of November.

Early Voting has Started … Have you voted yet?

Early Voting: Through October 31

Election Day: November 4

Georgia Power’s toxic actions, and the Georgia Public Service Commission’s approval of them, are costing Georgia residents and families more than just higher energy bills (for power we don’t use!).  Their reliance on toxic coal and fossil fuel sources of energy, coupled with the increasing energy use of massive corporate-built data centers are also making us pay huge health and environmental costs.

Who is running for the two PSC seats?

All PSC seats are at-large – everyone in Georgia should vote for both districts.

Become informed and VOTE.

2025-2026 GAYT Theme:

Plant Seeds of Justice

While human rights and international aid are under attack, it’s easy to feel like change is impossible. UUSC’s partners, however, know first-hand that justice doesn’t just appear

overnight. The movement for collective liberation requires ongoing, diligent tending and long-haul commitment.

This year, grassroots leaders share how they’re planting seeds for a more just future, no matter the circumstances. You will meet:

  • Innovative migration justice leaders housing LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers in Philadelphia

  • A Honduran community of water defenders carrying on the legacy of the late Juan Lopez

  • Political prisoner Ruth Lopez fighting for government

accountability and human rights in El Salvador Haitian activists fighting for the rights of people in migration.

Join us as we celebrate justice, generosity, and global solidarity at our Potluck following the service on Sunday, November 23.

Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20, 2025

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) has been observed annually from its inception on

November 20, 1999, to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia.

The day was founded to draw attention to the continued violence directed

toward transgender people.

Typically, a TDoR memorial includes a reading of the names of those who died during the past

year and may include other actions such as candlelight vigils.

GMUUC will honor TDoR with a Candlelight Vigil November 20 th at 6:00 p.m.

Check HERE for more information on TDoR.
